How do I choose a topic that is interesting and feasible for my level?

Choosing a research topic can be one of the most exciting parts of the journey when you have the right approach! The ChatGPT Prompts for Medical Research offers easy-to-follow prompts that harness the power of AI to spark creative ideas, uncover gaps in the literature, and match your interests with what’s practical for your level. You remain in full control, leading the process and selecting topics that not only inspire you but also fit seamlessly with your unique goals and circumstances.

What’s the easiest way to start brainstorming research ideas?

The ChatGPT Prompts for Medical Research provides tailored prompts designed to ignite your creativity and guide you toward unique, impactful ideas. It transforms the daunting “Where do I even start?” into the confident “I’ve found the perfect idea!”

Can I work on research if I’m not in an academic institution right now?

Definitely! Research is not limited to academics. Many impactful studies come from clinicians or professionals in the field. The Treasure Chest and the Prompts can help you navigate resources and partnerships to execute your project successfully, no matter where you are.

Is it possible to do meaningful research without access to a lab or fancy equipment?

Absolutely! You don’t need a lab to dive into clinical research—most projects can be done using patient data from clinical notes, whether from hospitals, theatres, or clinics. And here’s the best part: research like systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and surveys doesn’t even require you to be in a hospital! You can work from home, on your own schedule, and still create something impactful. With the Research Template Treasure Chest, you’ll have 17 ready-to-use templates for different study designs, so starting and developing your project to a professional standard has never been easier!

How can I find gaps in the literature to build a strong research question?

There is always something new to research in the medical field! But trust me, I completely understand the frustration of searching for that perfect dissertation idea or a project to land an extra publication—especially if you’re new to the field. Let me share a little secret with you: once you’ve brainstormed some ideas (check out the tips above on how to do this effectively), I recommend starting with short, focused phrases—no more than seven words—on free medical databases like PubMed and Google Scholar. If your search returns too many results, that’s when advanced search techniques come into play. Using Boolean operators (like AND, OR, NOT) and filters can help you narrow things down and find the gaps in the literature that truly stand out.Want a more detailed, step-by-step guide? Can I work on research if I’m not in an academic institution right now?

Every journal and reviewer is different, which means there’s always a small degree of uncertainty, even for high-quality papers. That’s exactly why I created the Treasure Chest: to share my years of experience with you. It’s packed with all the common mistakes to avoid, tips to follow, and the best structures to maximise your efforts and achieve successful, time-efficient publications. With the Treasure Chest’s resources at your fingertips, you WILL feel absolutely confident and ready to hit 'submit'.

Should I aim for high-impact journals, or start small and work my way up?

It depends on your goals, timeline, and the quality of your paper. If you need a publication quickly or are unsure of your paper’s potential, I would say start with smaller, lower-impact journals, it’s a great way to gain experience and build confidence. If your goal is to meet the highest standards and you’re willing to face a longer process (and possible rejections), then aiming for high-impact journals is worth considering. Either way, every publication is a step forward, so choose what aligns with your needs.

Facing Rejections

My paper has been rejected, should I aim for another journal with the same project or should I work more on my project before attempting another submission?

Rejections happen to everyone, it’s part of the journey. Reviewers and journals have different priorities, so submitting to another journal (especially a lower-impact one) might work, but some revisions are almost always needed. My advice? If your supervisor or senior co-authors with solid research experience believe the project is ready, try another journal, perhaps even an open-access option if institutional funding allows. However, if there are clear flaws, take the time to improve your work before resubmitting. The extra effort always pays off!

My paper has been rejected, should I start a different project?

You can absolutely start another project if you want to keep momentum, but don’t give up on the current one! Rejections are an opportunity to learn and grow. Take the reviewers’ feedback seriously, address the issues, and give your project another shot. Research isn’t about never failing, it’s about persistence and learning from every step. Never give up on a project you have worked so hard on, it deserves another chance!

Building Your Research Team

How do I approach my supervisor with a solid plan for my research?

Everything starts with the right motivation and the right question! I have drafted some email templates to help you communicate professionally and confidently with your supervisor.

STILL UNSURE ABOUT STARTING YOUR RESEARCH JOURNEY?

Why Research Matters

Why is research important for clinicians and healthcare professionals?

I believe that doctors and healthcare professionals who do research are the ones who drive medicine forward. Research is not just about progress and innovation. It’s about making a real difference. Research opens minds, it raises awareness, and yes, it can change beliefs. It’s about sharing knowledge for the greater good, creating a collective wisdom that will help us all. It’s a journey that brings both personal growth and a lasting impact on the world.
