But the journey wasn’t as smooth as it sounds. I faced multiple challenges and rejections...
In 2012, I began my journey at the International Medical School at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy, having overcome the disappointment of rejections from two other universities.
My time at medical school was both unique and deeply rewarding.
Initially, I encountered significant challenges, as my English skills were quite basic. The first two months were particularly tough.
However, through sheer determination, careful organisation, and employing a variety of study techniques, I successfully navigated my exams and moved forward with confidence.
During my academic journey, I broadened my horizons through clinical electives in both Cambridge (UK) and Japan.
These experiences were pivotal in igniting my passion for innovation and research within the medical field.
These clinical placements offered me a global perspective, enriching my understanding of diverse medical practices and the latest advancements in healthcare.
During my time in Cambridge, my mentor assigned me a challenging research project, which was meant to be my graduation dissertation, a requirement in Italy.
At the start, I felt completely out of my depth with research, as writing a dissertation and performing data analysis seemed like insurmountable tasks.
I recall countless days spent trying to make sense of datasets, numbers, and their implications, all while racing against the clock.
It was an incredibly stressful period, and I felt quite isolated without readily available support.
Confronting this challenge head-on was daunting, as I had no prior experience in writing a paper or analysing data until that moment.
Against all odds, I persevered and successfully completed the project.
This achievement marked a turning point for me, as I went on to graduate with honours in the first available session of my academic year.
It stands as one of the proudest moments of my life.
After dedicating so much effort to studying medicine in English, I felt a strong pull towards continuing my journey in the United Kingdom.
Despite having a solid foundation in theoretical knowledge, I was increasingly concerned about my practical clinical skills, which seemed to lag behind.
My struggles with practical research were also fresh in my mind, as I had narrowly finished my dissertation on time.
Moving to England for further training proved to be a life-changing decision. I ventured into the unknown, unfamiliar with both the culture and the hands-on experience demanded by the UK system.
My early days were fraught with challenges, marked by cultural shock and a sense of isolation.
During my Foundation Training years, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, leaving me feeling isolated, with only my phone to keep in touch with family and friends.
The loneliness was overwhelming, compounded by the immense stress at work.
The hospital became both a refuge and a source of anxiety, as I often found myself going to work not just to fulfil my duties, but also to escape the uncertainty of what to do afterwards.
In the midst of the stress and homesickness, I sought to make positive use of my downtime.
Out of sheer boredom after my long shifts, I decided to join an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) course.
This decision profoundly shifted my mindset, transforming me into a more balanced and high-performing person.
During this transformative time, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery.
I delved into new hobbies like writing and painting, enjoyed long walks in nature, and found joy in listening to music and audiobooks.
These activities sparked a deeper contemplation about my life's purpose, my mission, and the skills I wanted to develop.
While working towards my professional goal of obtaining a Master of Surgery at Cambridge, I was also questioning how I could truly make an impact on others.
Although I had yet to figure out the exact path, this uncertainty drove me to learn new skills and listen to inspirational speakers who had already made a difference in my life.
In tandem with my career aspirations, I nurtured the personal dream of meeting the right person to become a lifelong partner, fulfilling my dreams of marriage and motherhood.
I aspired to a life rich in both professional success and personal happiness, guided by a positive and determined mindset.
Beginning the foundation programme in the UK came with significant challenges, yet it also presented immense opportunities for growth.
Confronting these obstacles fortified my resilience and adaptability while substantially enhancing my clinical and research skills.
Despite the hurdles, I dedicated myself to research, evolving from a novice to a skilled researcher.
This journey led to collaborations with international research groups, publishing papers, and presenting my work at global conferences.
After dedicated effort, I secured a place in one of my favourite Core Surgical Programmes, marking the next step on my path to higher specialty training in Urology.
Completing my final year in the Master of Surgery at Cambridge with top grades was another proud milestone in my journey.
In the midst of a busy on-call day, I unexpectedly met the man I had been hoping to find. He asked me out during our brief encounter. The rest is history...
These magical years of my life were filled with growth. I focused on advancing my teaching and research profiles while beginning my core surgical training.
Adding to this joy, I experienced the unique journey of having my first child.
My growing expertise opened the door to teaching at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, culminating in my appointment as a Visiting Professor in 2023.
This stands as one of my most cherished career milestones.
I feel prepared for a significant shift in my journey.
Teaching and helping others overcome their fears has become my life's mission.
I have always aspired to create something memorable, as I have learned that people remember how you make them feel, not just what you do for them.
I recall feeling lost, unsupported, and intimidated by the worlds of medicine and research.
At those times, I wished someone could guide me without having to struggle alone. Instead, I pushed forward, gaining the strength and knowledge to thrive.
Now, my goal is to help you feel supported, empowered, and ready to take your next steps with confidence, free from fear and stress.
By 2024, I have published over 30 papers, averaging seven publications each year.
What began as a small effort during my student days has flourished into a career filled with stability and countless opportunities.
I am eager to teach you essential skills and strategies that can become powerful strengths and accelerate your career.
I'm excited to be your guide and mentor on this extraordinary journey, sharing all the insights I have gained with you!
